In the 94th minute, pure elation broke out for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and gifted the temporary Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench was the most decorated manager of his time, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a one-time trainer at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and stepped up to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, most notably Chelsea's important midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
